Bourne Artists Open Houses – Saturday and Sunday 10th & 11th and 17th & 18th June 2023

Welcome to the Old Town Hall’s second Artists Open Houses in Bourne and the surrounding area, the ethos of which is for artists and makers to open their doors and welcome you to explore their work.

Enjoy the work of local artists at the free Main Exhibition at the Old Town Hall, Bourne and in the artists’ own homes or studios.

Entry to each venue is free and you will have the opportunity to buy the artists’ original work and they also often have cards and prints available. Opening times vary for each venue, so please check the information below for each artist.

Everyone is welcome, we simply ask you respect the artist’s property when you visit.

Access: As most venues are private homes, there may not be specialist access for disabled visitors. Please email us if you need any information.

Main Exhibition

The Old Town Hall, Bourne, PE10 9AE

Saturday 10th & 17th 10.00-16.00  and Sunday 11th & 18th  11.00-15.00

Situated in the heart of Bourne and run entirely by volunteers, the Old Town Hall will provide the focal point for the event with an exhibition featuring examples of work from all of the featured artists for the duration of the event.

Refreshments will be available in the Shambles.

Shalini Austin

The Elms, Aveland Way, Aslackby, NG34 0HQ

Saturday 17th 10.00-16.00  and Sunday 18th 10.00-16.00

Shalini is a self taught metalsmith. She makes Copper things. Originally from India Shalini now lives & works in Stamford. She hand-crafts decorative copper items and metal jewellery. Her work is mostly inspired by nature and things she sees around her. Shalini started working with wire & semi precious stones in 2008, making jewellery to sell at local craft shows and via her website. As she progressed on her creative journey she learnt to appreciate sheet metal, especially copper. Shalini’s work is now taking a new path – metalsmithing, crafting a decorative and

functional range of copper jewellery, sculptures and home-ware.
All her designs are created individually in her home studio. Most of Shalini’s designs are truly one-off but some things can be made to order.

Fenella Beauchamp

Fenella paints large decorative paintings inspired by natural, big blousey florals and natural life paintings of colour and organic life. Fenella enjoys what nature has to offer and her work is ever evolving.

Emily Bowers

Emily is an artist and illustrator whose main source of inspiration is the natural world. She finds its beauty endless and full of inspiration. 

Emily loves to create work with a sense of atmosphere, movement and narrative and observes the world around her or calls upon memories to do so. ‘I want to create the positive changes I’d like to see; people protect what they love and care about. My goal is to
create awareness and conversation whilst engaging people in the arts.’

Emily studied MA Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art and is an Associate Artist with Art Pop-Up.

Ben Connell

 Ben is an artist who lives and loves drawing, painting, designing and film making. He loves the energy of live drawing and trying to communicate that life and character through visual language.

Charlotte Jarman

Having originally trained as a Theatre Designer and Scenic
Artist, Charlotte has always been interested in the effects of light, colour and movement, elements which inform her own artwork. Always keen to explore new materials and techniques Charlotte often works with mixed media, collage and print alongside her painting and drawing. Recent outcomes have been inspired by wildlife and nature, particularly that of coastal regions and demonstrate a strong and expressive use of colour in the style of the Fauvist artists such as
Franz Marc and Andre Derain. When painting seascapes and water Charlotte frequently refer to the amazingly expressive work of the Cornish artist Kurt Jackson.

Phil Jarman

Phil has a passion for historical and contemporary art and design, ranging from Pieter Bruegel the Elder, LS Lowry, John Piper, JMW Turner to more recent illustrators, photographers and print makers whose design outcomes are evident in contemporary galleries and seen within graphic design style such as Blue Note Records, Punk and New Wave music.

Developing individual styles since both retiring from academia, his work is continually evolving and encompassing new and untried techniques and technologies resulting in a varied portfolio of outcomes.

Ella Jenkins

Ella is an upholsterer and textile artist and she loves to combine these skills to create unique pieces of furniture, which she calls ‘chair art’. From her little workshop in Little Bytham Ella loves to work with antique and vintage chairs and, wherever possible, recycle, reuse and reconstruct to give each piece a new lease of life and to transform it into something that will be treasured and passed on to the next generation.

Ella uses a variety of textile techniques including applique, patchwork, machine and hand embroidery. She often take her inspiration from the surrounding countryside and its natural wildlife. Each chair is individually designed and lovingly restored to create something rather fabulous, yet with enough quirk and character to be truly distinctive.

Ella also offers a bespoke service for people looking for that distinctive something for their home, or a unique gift.

Eve Marshall

Eve’s art work is often reflections of nature and wildlife. Eve loves to take photos of her wanders and then recreate ideas from them using her palette of wools and silks.  She has been working creatively with wool for over 15 years. During the wet felting process, she throws as much colour and texture at a piece that she can. Once dry, Eves love to see how much detail she can achieve with a single felting needle.

Nicola McLean

Nicola’s paintings are the result of environmental studies made from walking through landscapes. After sketched and photographic observations Nicola loves to then begin the alchemy of paint mixing, vibrant or tempered down with earth pigments. Nicola’s thought process references and incorporates literature, especially ancient mythology. 

 

 

Sara Smith

Sara enjoys creating light and shade, fresh and natural wooded landscapes that send chills down her spine. Sara’s love of capturing nature has a stillness about it. The joy she gets from painting these topics gives her a peace that no other creative technique provides. A brush is a comfort and she is in her happy place when she paints.
